University of Maine Policies & Recommendations
Student / Student Organization Facilities Use Policy
Applies to
All University of Maine Graduate and Undergraduate Students
Rationale
The University of Maine is dedicated to ensuring student support, success, and engagement on campus. To fulfill this commitment and comply with local, state, and federal laws, as well as University of Maine Board of Trustee policies, the University provides a wide range of programs, services, offices, and support systems. This policy is designed to ensure that these efforts are fully aligned with legal and regulatory requirements and to address issues of risk management, licensure, and insurance.
To prevent duplication of services and ensure consistency, students and student organizations are prohibited from using University facilities and resources to offer services already provided by the University. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by the Vice President for Student Life or their designee, but must be documented in writing. This documentation will outline the authority, conditions, and supervision arrangements for the service or program. The University reserves the right to require appropriate insurance, confirm necessary licensure, and impose any other reasonable requirements to ensure compliance and proper oversight.
