You can be part of a unique opportunity to engage students in real research, make a difference in your community, and gain valuable knowledge and skills! This year-long experience will begin with a 3-day storm water institute at the University of Maine during the last week of June.

The project’s primary focus will be on teachers and students from schools in the following storm water areas: Bangor, Old Town, Orono, Veazie,  Belfast, Kittery, Portland, Auburn, Lewiston, or a Maine tribal community.

There is no fee to take part in this program or attend the Institute (housing and meals are included during the Institute).  Teachers will be given a stipend to help support the following responsibilities:  transportation to and from the Institute; chaperoning students during the Institute; and participating with their students in other program activities and events throughout the following year.

TEACHER LEADER PARTICIPATION HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Participate with students from your school/community in the 3-day Institute
  • Mentor and assist students throughout the following academic year as they periodically monitor and map water quality around their local community, use the latest sensor technology for data collection, and learn to use computer modeling for data analysis in order to help solve local storm water issues.
  • Mentor and assist students as they participate in related outreach activities throughout the year.
  • Earn a $1,000 stipend and CEUs for your participation.

To apply for participation in the 2016-2017 program, an online application will be available soon!
