Undergraduates are central to the SIA Lab. There are typically between 5 and 10 undergraduate research assistants in the lab, some taking the directed research course (PSY 492) and others volunteering. Research assistants enjoy close mentoring from doctoral students and have opportunities to assume increasing responsibilities and leadership roles. Many earn authorship on regional and national conference presentations, and some publish in scientific journals. Students in the department’s research-intensive track often move on to complete independent research projects (PSY 494) or, for those also enrolled in the Honors College, honors theses.
