Michael Cooley: The work of the new student orientation group is to better prepare students for what to expect when coming to college. The first step in increasing retention, increasing student success is letting them know what to expect and letting them know where to go to get help.
We were thinking in this group all about restructuring what we do to better support that and to help a student not just at orientation but all throughout their college experience.
I work in enrolling management, so orientation is something that I see every year. I see how it goes, we hear the feedback. I’m in a good spot in that department to help out. I think there’s a lot of potential for collaboration. Some of the ideas that our working group came up with could easily fit right into what they’re doing and further support student’s success.
