Dr. Stuart Marrs presents at Canadian percussion conference
This two-day event is distinguished from many other percussion gatherings by its serious academic nature: designed by percussionists, for percussionists. This last iteration of the conference was a focused program of very high-quality research presentations and performances.
My presentation was on the importance of closely comparing the published music of Elliott Carter’s Eight Pieces for Four Timpani with Carter’s original manuscripts. It turns out that there are many errors and discrepancies in the published version, and careful study of the manuscripts may substantially alter their final performance.
Special thanks to the University of Maine Canadian-American Center for their generous support of my travel for the conference.
