Mission of UMaine Marches for Science

UMaine Marches for Science is a local satellite march to the national March for Science.  The March was spurred by recent changes in national discourse that have led to the devaluation of science and critical thinking.  However, it is not a protest against any individual or political party.  Our aims are to emphasize the importance of the scientific method and empirical evidence in our society, support scientists of all backgrounds, and to make science more accessible to the public.

While our core focus is our march and rally, we hope to use our platform to advocate for science and scientists long after the march has ended.  To this end, we are gathering interviews with local scientists and fun science facts to display on our site.  Through these projects, we hope to connect with the public and demonstrate the ways in which science is improving life in Maine.
