Dan Barrett
Dr. Dan Barrett teaches trombone, jazz improvisation, jazz piano, jazz arranging, and directs the Jazz Band and the jazz combo program, at the University of Maine. He has been privileged to perform with many great jazz musicians including Bob Mintzer, Conrad Herwig, Andy Martin, John Fedchock, Thomas Gansch, Ingrid Jensen, Phil Markowitz, Eric Marienthal, Jim McNeely, and Byron Stripling. He performs often with the UMaine Faculty Jazz Ensemble, the Brian Nadeau Big Band, Swingmatism, and various other groups. He also teaches trombone and directs a jazz ensemble at the Maine Summer Youth Music camp. His career has also included performances with the Utah Symphony, the Bangor Symphony, the Boston Brass and many other ensembles, and solo performances with the Carson City Symphony, the University of Maine Symphonic Band, the Bowdoin College Concert Band, the University of Maine Farmington Concert Band, the Brigham Young University Philharmonic Orchestra, the Utah Premiere Brass Band, and as a guest artist at the Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington D.C. Dr. Barrett is also the executive director of Danymu Publishing, which features the compositions of Daniel Schnyder. His book of trombone exercises, Solo Training for Trombone, is published by Mountain Peak Music. When not involved with music, he is usually playing ball, wandering in the woods, or sledding with his sons, Cole, Andrew, and Grant, and his wife, Ann.
