Biorobotics Biomechanics Lab
The Biorobotics & Biomechanics Laboratory (BBL) focuses on developing a range of wearable robots to provide haptic feedback and power assistance to users to provide fundamental knowledge about how neuromotor and perceptuomotor systems can be trained to generate lasting improvements in users’ gait. The tools and knowledge gained through our research aim to advance gait training and neurorehabilitation for individuals with walking difficulties. Our lab applies the principles of dynamic systems and controls while utilizing haptic feedback to quantify the neural system responses in young and older adults to exploit them for gait rehabilitation. The lab’s research is supported by the National Science Foundation (the NSF CAREER Award from the Disability and Rehabilitation Engineering Program) and the Institute on Aging (NIA) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Additionally, through a grant from the Department of Energy (DOE), the BBL aims to create a novel control system for floating offshore wind turbines to enhance their structural stability and energy generation in the face of uncertainties in the waves.
