I've Got a Degree... Now What?
One of the amazing qualities of an engineering degree (biomedical or otherwise) is that there will almost always be job opportunities available to you since engineers play an integral role in the success of virtually every sector of the economy! Your mathematical, technical, and critical thinking skills (to name just a few) are highly valued and are consequently in constant demand!
So, what can you expect to do with an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering? Well, there isn’t just one answer! Many graduates immediately begin work after graduation, with average starting salaries of about $54,000 (according to an article from Forbes magazine), which can grow to a mid-career salary of over $90,000! Of course, these numbers will vary based on level of experience, education, geographic location, etc., but regardless, working as an engineer will almost certainly be friendly to your bank account! Other grads may decide that they would like to pursue higher education, perhaps by pursuing a Master’s, Ph.D, or maybe even an M.D.! As with most fields, higher education in engineering typically positively correlates with higher career earnings, which is definitely one of many great benefits of choosing that path! Additionally, going to grad school and/or medical school can allow you to become specialized in a particular area of study and hone in on some topic or question in the the field that you’re passionate about!
