Ryan Fairchild
Ryan Fairchild is a Biomedical Engineer at the University of Maine in Orono, and has had profound interest in sensors and systems, particularly those which directly interface to the body. His role as project organizer is to keep the extensive documentation in order, and involves planning when to have certain aspects of the project done. In addition, wiring, soldering and general troubleshooting skills have been deep rooted through years of working on modern vehicle sensors and electrical systems, skills that have proved to be quite valuable in the development phase and signal acquisition phase of the project, as well in communications between microprocessors embedded within the device.
In the bit of spare time he has, Ryan enjoys art in the form of drawing, woodworking, ceramics and metal sculpture. Creativity and the ability to think outside the box is essential to any design project, and the blend of art and science in Ryan’s upbringing has fostered that. In his last year of high school, he worked with his ceramics and his chemistry teachers to build a class combining the two unlikely subjects, a course that was eventually added to Granby Memorial High School curriculum 3 years ago.
