The Flovolution Solution

Equipped with 2 components, the Flovolution Solution is prepared to handle your veterinarian diagnostic needs regardless of your constraints. A custom-made 3D-printed disc holds up to 4 samples of blood that can subsequently be separated out using little to no power. No longer is there a need for complicated, expensive machinery to separate blood! The custom-made disc is home to 4 patterns of a peer-reviewed microfluidic channel that separates blood into its components as the device spins and blood flows through. The included fan attachment can also be used, where the disc and its included attachment piece can be loaded onto the fan and spun to separate the blood, no matter the constraints or environment in which its used in.

Why is This Important?

Currently, many farmers have large animals that are not getting the care they need. Livestock veterinarians are few and far between, and often located far from the rural farms with these large animals. As a result, farmers often turn to themselves for veterinary care given the lack of availability and difficulty of transporting farm animals to a veterinary clinic.

Lab-on-a-chip systems hold great promise for increasing access to health information quickly and at the point of need. Sappi has developed a new method to mass-produced simple microfluidic devices using their roll-to-roll process. Therefore, low-cost and mass-manufactured microfluidic patterns can be made in a user-friendly integrated setup to separate blood into its components at the farm.

The Flovolution Solution empowers farmers and livestock veterinarians for faster, more efficient veterinary care for large animals.
