2016 Cardboard Canoe Race

 

The 2016 Cardboard Canoe Race was held Saturday October 1 on the Stillwater River in Orono. The race was very competitive with the top three team finishing with 3 minutes of each other. The race, which was the first Cardboard Canoe Race hosted by ASME since 2003 was very successful.

Teams were given an Hour and a half to build Boats out of Cardboard and 50 yards of Duck tape. The winning team had to construct a boat to stay out on the water the longest. The winners of this years race with a time of 11:25 were Jake Kientz, Tim Dassow, and Jacob Bloom. Teams saw an additional challenge when light rain started falling, adding to the excitement.
