University of Maine Day in the Hall of Flags
Feb. 24, 1865, the Maine legislature passed the bill creating Maine’s land grant university. Gov. Samuel Cony signed the Maine State College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts into being the next day. Feb. 24, 2015, faculty, students and representatives from businesses that partner with UMaine had displays in the Hall of Flags in the State House while a proclamation declaring Feb. 24 as University of Maine Day was read.
