- Exploring Academic Programs: Helping prospective students clarify their educational goals, explore major/minor options, and select the right fully online degree program.
- Understanding Admission & Application Steps: Assisting prospective students in navigating the application process and checking application requirements/status.
- Evaluating Transfer Credits: Guiding adult learners and transfer applicants on how past college coursework, military experience, or prior learning credits will apply toward a UMaineOnline degree.
- Providing Financial Aid & Cost Guidance: Connecting prospective students with information on tuition rates, scholarships, and financial aid options.
- Assessing Readiness for Online Learning: Discussing the structure, expectations, and technology platforms of distance education so prospective students feel prepared before enrolling.

UMaineOnline advisors assist admitted undergraduate students by helping them complete necessary enrollment steps and prepare for online learning:
- Navigating Enrollment Checklists: Guiding newly admitted students through intent-to-enroll forms, setting up their University of Maine System account/email, and submitting final transcripts.
- Course Registration: Helping students finalize course schedules and navigate registration systems.
- Onboarding & Orientation: Assisting students through online student orientation and ensuring they understand how to access digital tools, learning platforms (e.g., Brightspace), and course materials.
- Academic Goal Setting & Success Coaching: Introducing students to success coaching strategies to help them establish time management habits, study routines, and self-directed learning practices tailored for online education.
- Connecting With Campus Support: Referring students to essential institutional resources, such as financial aid advisors, accessibility services, military and veteran services, and tutoring centers.

- Academic Support & Problem Solving: Helping students navigate academic challenges, administrative policies (such as course adds/drops or withdrawals), and academic standing processes.
- Career & Graduation Guidance: Assisting students as they prepare for graduation, verifying degree completion requirements, and connecting them with career resources or graduate study options.
- Connecting to Campus Resources: Serving as a primary point of contact to connect online students with tutoring, writing centers, library services, accessibility services, and financial aid counseling.
