Oak Tree and Memorial Plaque
Near the sidewalk between Center and North Stevens halls is an oak tree with a dedication plaque at its base. Created as a memorial to a deceased student, the tree and plaque honor alumnus Lawrence A. Jones Jr. A number of such memorials are on campus, honoring beloved faculty, staff, students, alums and family members. Those associated with a tree or garden are considered “living memorials”; other memorial types include granite and wooden benches, bronze plaques, sculptures, facilities and rooms in buildings.
