Welcome to Peru
Maine An EncyclopediaWelcome to Peru

The town of Peru, Maine was first settled in the late eighteenth century and incorporated in 1821. The town was named after Peru to show solidarity, as the country of Peru had just achieved independence from Spain at that time. The town grew with agriculture and lumber as the main industries, and nowadays Peru is becoming a more popular outdoor destination for its beautiful forests, mountains, and waters. (Source)
