Welcome to Sumner
Maine An EncyclopediaWelcome to Sumner

The town of Sumner was first settled by a group of Revolutionary War veterans from Massachusetts, and incorporated in 1798. The town grew with the support of agriculture and water-powered small-scale industry, boosted by the railroad line that operated there until 1952. In recent decades Sumner’s population has boomed again, approaching historic highs, as more people come for its rural charm and natural beauty. (Source)
