Landscape
Artist: Abbott Pattison, Maine and Chicago (1916–99)
Grassy area at the north side of Carnegie Hall, Schoodic Road
Landscape, made of corten steel, and cut and welded by the artist, is one of numerous works acquired for UMaine’s Museum of Art through the efforts of the late Vincent Hartgen, founder of both the university’s art department and art museum. Landscape, dating from the 1970s, brings to mind a number of images, including a lumbering bear and, perhaps, a dinosaur. Its size and appearance make it a dramatic, eye-catching sculpture, unlike anything on campus.
