Before You Can Order a Permit, You Will Need:

When your transaction is complete, your permit will be mailed to you. 

Need to park right away?

In the “notification of payment” email, there is a link to a printable temporary pass. 

This can be used for up to two weeks from date of purchase. This will allow you to park on the day of your online purchase until your physical hang-tag arrives in the mail. Permits are mailed out the next business day but please allow for mailing delays or other local mailing delays.

If your paperwork is still being processed and you need a permit please see Parking Services for a temporary parking pass. We will add your name to our Fellows list, which we check frequently, and when your status changes we will reach out (via email or phone) letting you know the Fellows permit is now available to you. 
  • These permits are valid in designated Blue and Black lots.

  •  If you are a Fellow living on campus please see us for an additional sticker to allow for Red lot parking privileges.

Carpool
Free for eligible Faculty/Staff

  • Carpool permits are restricted to eligible faculty/staff who are carpooling together with at least two individuals.
  • An application is required.
  • These permits are valid in designated Carpool parking spaces that are assigned. When not carpooling, the permit is valid in both Blue and Black lots the same as a Faculty/Staff permit. Permits expire on 12/31 of each year.
  • Vehicles with carpool permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures. One permit is allowed per carpool group.
  • After-midnight parking for Carpool permit holders during the Overnight Parking Ban limits parking to designated overnight parking lots: College Ave South, and the black section of Bridge Tennis Courts. See the Overnight Parking Ban for more information.

Electric Vehicle

  • Electric Vehicle permits are restricted to eligible faculty/staff, and resident students who own an electric vehicle. For vehicle requirements, disclaimers, and more info, please visit the Electric Vehicles page.
  • Permits are limited by availability. Contact the Parking Office to secure your space.
  • Permission and allocation of a designated space is required. 
  • Parking spaces that are assigned. When not driving an electric vehicle, the owner must park in their designated lot. Faculty/Staff (blue or black).
  • Vehicles with Electric Vehicle permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures.
  • After-midnight parking for Electric Vehicle permit holders during the Overnight Parking Ban limits parking to designated overnight parking lots: College Ave South, and the black section of Bridge Tennis Courts. See the Overnight Parking Ban for more information.
  • Once approved these permits can be purchased in person at the Parking Office.
  • Permits are sold by the year for $300 per year.

Gold Card

Free for eligible retired faculty/staff

  • The Gold Card permits are restricted to Gold Card holders. An application and acceptance from the President’s Office is required before a Gold Card will be issued.
  • Vehicles with Gold Card permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures.
  • These permits are valid in designated Faculty/Staff parking areas only (all Blue and Black lots).
  • After-midnight parking for Gold Card permit holders during the Overnight Parking Ban limits parking to designated overnight lots: College Ave South, and the black section of Bridge Tennis Courts. See the Overnight Parking Ban for more information.
  • Gold Cards are free of charge after the application and the approval process via the President’s Office.
  • One permit is allowed per person.

20 for $20

For visitors who do not need an annual pass, we offer packs of 20 one-day parking permits for $20 to be used in Black signed lots.

These may be convenient for:

  • Regular visitors who don’t want to get a permit each visit.
  • Those who have regular meetings on campus.
  • The commuter student who visits campus on rare occasions.
  • The commuter student who takes classes just one semester, etc.

These permits are valid for one day at a time and must be purchased in person at the Parking Office.

Temporary Day Pass
Free

A Temporary Day Pass can be obtained at:

  • The Parking and Transportation Services Office is located at 5702 DTAV Community Building (138 Rangeley Road), across from the UCU on Rangeley Road.
    • Year-long permits are also available to purchase at this location.
    • Window hours are Monday–Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ; Fridays by appointment only.
    • There is a 24/7-365 lobby kiosk available at all times.
  • The Buchanan Alumni House – 160 College Ave. (Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Request a printable version via email to um.parkingservices@maine.edu (allow 24-48 hours for a response).

  • These permits are valid in designated Faculty/Staff parking areas (all Blue and Black lots), 30-minute Loading Zone, and Service Vehicle designated areas.
  • Vehicles with Faculty/Staff permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures.
  • Permits are sold by the year at a cost of $50 per year. All Vendor permits must be purchased in person at the Parking Office. One permit is allowed per person. Permits expire on 12/31 of each year.
  • After-midnight parking for Vendor permit holders during the Overnight Parking Ban limits parking to designated overnight lots: College Ave South, and the black section of Bridge Tennis Courts. See the Overnight Parking Ban page for more information.

Rec Center Parking Permits

All New Balance Recreation Center visitors must have a parking permit to park in the Rec Center lot.

Full Members:

  • Shall receive a free permit (orange) to park in the Rec Center Parking Area. This free “Rec Center Parking Permit” is a benefit of full membership.
  • This permit is valid only in the stated parking area (NOT in the red-signed Hilltop Lot), and is valid only for a 4-hour maximum visit.
  • Pick up your eligibility card at the Rec Center front desk. You must bring this card to the Parking Office to receive your orange Rec Center parking permit.

30-Day Pass holders, and other non-members passes who are enrolled in programs:

  • The Rec Center Parking Permit (orange) may be purchased at the Rec Center front desk for $10 per semester or $30 per year. This permit is valid only in the stated parking area (NOT in the red-signed Hilltop Lot), and is valid only for a 4-hour maximum visit. Cost $30.00 for one year.
  • A visitor parking permit can be purchased at Parking Services for $50, which is valid in black parking lots, visitor spaces and the Rec Center parking lot (with a 4-hr limit). These permits are sold by year and valid 8/31 – 8/31 the following year.
  • Pick up your eligibility card at the Rec Center front desk. You must bring this card to the Parking Office to receive your orange Rec Center parking permit.

Day Pass users:

  • A visitor parking permit can be purchased at Parking Services for $50, which is valid in black parking lots, visitor spaces and the Rec Center parking lot (with a 4-hr limit). These permits are sold by year and valid 8/31 – 8/31 the following year.

Special Permits

Motorcycle/Moped
$30

Buttercup the Parking Pup on a motorcycle.
  • Motorcycle and Moped stickers are required for all motorcycles and mopeds parked on campus. 
  • Motorcycles and Mopeds can be parked in designated motorcycle and moped parking throughout campus as well as in any valid black standard parking space. 
  • Permits can be obtained for free if a vehicle hang-tag is already owned. Otherwise, they are $30 each. Permits expire on 8/31 of each year.

To obtain a motorcycle permit, please visit in person at the Parking Office in the DTAV Community Center (138 Rangeley Road, Orono).

Accessible (ADA) Permit

  • All students, faculty, staff, and visitors are required to have a valid University of Maine Parking Permit.
  • To park in an accessible space, an individual must also have a state-issued accessible permit/placard or plate.
  • Those 2 permits together, allow parking in any valid University of Maine student, faculty/staff, commuter, or visitor-accessible parking space. The State-issued accessible permit/placard should be displayed facing the window from the mirror and the University of Maine permit should be displayed facing the driver so that the numbers can be read by a Parking Enforcement Officer.
  • Failure to have both permits displayed are subject to enforcement procedures.
  • Vehicles with accessible permits parked in areas designated for other permit categories are subject to enforcement procedures. Examples include parking in Service Vehicle Spaces, Carpool and Loading Zones.
  • A temporary 7-day Accessible parking pass can be obtained at the Parking Office. These permits cannot be extended or renewed. The permit gives the individual time to go through the State of Maine if a permit is required past 7 days. Limited on one 7 day pass per calendar year.
  • Once signed the paperwork can be brought to the Bangor BMV and a placard can be issued that same day, mailing or faxing the paperwork could create a week long lead time for receiving the placard by mail.The Bangor BMV is located at 396 Griffin Road, Suite 202 Bangor, ME 04401, Tel: (207) 942-1319 Fax: (207) 945-0175.
