Why Black Bears Love Living on Campus
Bed Height
Standard Mid-Height
All of our beds come at the mid-loft height (38″ to the top of the mattress) to allow for storage underneath. There is approximately 27-30″ of storage area below the bed. If you require your bed lower, please submit your loft request prior to your arrival to campus via email.
Bottom of frame: 27.5″ high; top of mattress: 38″ high
All standard beds come with a mattress and are 80″ long (Twin XL sheet size). Beds can no longer be high lofted or bunked due to past safety issues.
Long Beds
Students who are 6’5″ or taller may request an XXL (84″) bed through myHousing after room assignments are released in the summer.
Please note that the XXL 84″ beds cannot be lofted; however, students may bring store-bought risers to lift them a bit for more storage underneath.

MicroChill® Combo Units
MicroChill® is a combination refrigerator/freezer and microwave appliance that is approved for use in University of Maine residence halls. Due to breaker tripping, this is the only option if you would like BOTH a microwave and a refrigerator for your on-campus room. Save money by ordering your MicroChill® unit prior to August 1!

Please note:
24/7 Secured Dorm Access
Each student has a MaineCard that allows them access to their individual hall and rooms. All dorm room locks are closely monitored and there is 24/7 assistance needed if a student should ever have an issue with their door lock.
Resident Laundry at UMaine
In the academic year 2023-2024, we began offering free laundry to all residents. Students will no longer have to worry about running out of their $35 allotment and adding more money to their MaineCards.
LaundryConnect™ Live Laundry Room Monitoring allows you to go online, find your hall to view what is running, see what’s available, and check statuses.
In addition, if there is an issue with the laundry machines in your hall, send a message to the company using the online portal.
Laundry is free for campus residents and can be found typically in the basement of every hall.
High-Speed Internet
- Students are able to study at any time with reliable, high-speed internet access from MyResNet
Stream2 Streaming Service
- Each unit has a streaming service with multiple on-demand channels from Stream2. Never miss a game again!
- If students do not have a newer TV that streams, most dorms (except Kennebec & Penobscot) still provide COAX cable ports in each room
Live-In Staff
Each residence hall has a Resident Assistant and Community Coordinator that lives right in the building. They are trained to handle anything that might come their way and their number priority is to ensure students are safe, happy, and always have assistance, 24/7.

Each student has their own mailbox right in the lobby of their residence hall.

Full-Service Postal Center
UMaine has a fully functioning postal service center where students can mail and receive packages.
Vending Machines
Need a midnight study snack but everything is closed? Each residence hall has both soda and snack vending machines.
Free Transportation to Bangor Area
All students & faculty/staff with a MaineCard have access to the Black Bear Orono Express which will allow them to get around Orono, Old Town, and to Bangor when needed.

Multiple Lounges in Each Building
Each residence hall has multiple lounges for students to get together. Whether it’s for a group study session or a big football game, it’s a great place for mingling and connecting.
