Doris Twitchell Allen Village

DTAV exteriorDoris Twitchell Allen Village (DTAV) is one of two suite-style living residences for upperclass students. It is named for Dr. Doris Twitchell Allen, who received two degrees at UMaine and founded CISV International. DTAV consists of four houses: Baumann-Nelson, Chandler, Lown, and Smith.

DTAV Name Fast Facts:

  • Dr. Esther Baumann-Nelson was the first Native American to graduate from UMaine.
  • Dr. Robert Chandler, Jr. developed “miracle rice” which vastly increased Asian rice production, preventing famine.
  • Dr. Bernard Lown won the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize for founding International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War.
  • Samantha Smith was a peace activist who wrote a letter to Yuri Andropov asking for peace in 1982 – at the age of ten.

Located on the north side of campus, DTAV is a three minute walk from Hilltop Dining, so it’s a short distance to get delicious food or visit Hilltop Market. Emera Astronomy Center is just across the street.
