Bushra Amil: Outstanding Graduate Student in Literacy, Language and Culture

Bushra Amil is the 2024 Outstanding Graduate Student in Literacy, Language and Culture in the University of Maine College of Education and Human Development. Her research interests include language and literacy, applied linguistics, translanguaging and TESOL. Before coming to UMaine she was an English (ESL) teacher in Pakistan. Literacy nights highlight UMaine’s service to schools and families

The College of Education and Human Development has incorporated literacy nights at area schools into the curriculum for education majors for more than 20 years. It’s an opportunity for UMaine students taking their literacy methods courses to apply some of the knowledge and skills they have picked up in the classroom and to gain hands-on experience working with K–12 students and families.
