Memorial Union

As a hub of student activity at the University, the Memorial Union is a key element of campus life.  Regarded as the gathering place for the campus community, the Memorial Union is home to programs, services, facilities and people that serve students, faculty, staff, alumni, visitors, and the surrounding community. Dedicated June 13, 1953, the Memorial Union underwent major renovations in 2001 to its meeting rooms, bookstore, food venues, and lounges. The Memorial Union is a tribute to the University of Maine’s men and women who served in World War II and a memorial to the 181 men who gave their lives in that war. The Memorial Room in the Union is dedicated to their service and to the memory of those who served. The Union includes the Career Center, Heckerspace, Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, Commuter and Nontraditional Student Programs, Computer Connection, Information Center, Student Wellness Resource Center, Multicultural Programs/Center , Rainbow Resource Center, Student Service Center, University Book Store, the Cubby (Post Office, Copy Center, etc.), E-Mail Lounge, VETS Center, Bodwell Center, Residence Life, and Student Life.

The Memorial Union also houses the Maine Campus (student newspaper), WMEB-FM (campus radio station), Spirit Room, the Wade Center for Student Leadership, and the University Credit Union (UCU).

Bear’s Den and Union Central Market have varied hours. Check their hours of operation here: umaine.sodexomyway.com

The University Bookstore is located on the first floor and is open 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday-Friday. The University Bookstore will occasionally be open outside of normal operating hours for special events, please check www.bookstore.umaine.edu for weekend and evening hours.

The Package and Postal Center is located at the back of the University Bookstore and holds hours of operation from 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday-Friday.

The Information Booth

The Information Booth is centrally located on the second floor of the Memorial Union. Common information contained within the Information Booth is:

  • Academic schedules, including class and finals schedules
  • Bus schedules for the BAT and Concord Trailways
  • Maps and directions to all campus buildings
  • Lost and found for items left in the Memorial Union
