MJ Sedlock, M.F.A.


Mary Jean “MJ” Sedlock began working at UMaine in the fall of 2015. She teaches classes in Stagecraft, Drafting, Advanced Stagecraft and Stage Management. She also serves as the Production Manager and Technical Director for the Division of Theatre/Dance. In this role, she manages production budgets and calendars, oversees all production areas, and is responsible for the engineering and construction of scenery for the resident produced season.
MJ holds a B.S. in Theatre Design/Production from Illinois State University and an M.F.A. in Scenic Technology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She graduated with honors from both institutions, receiving the Caroline Gordon Award and Scholarship for service to the department at ISU and a distinguished achievement award from UIUC. MJ is an active member of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology, Theatre Communications Group, and the Production Manager’s Forum. Concurrent with her role at UMaine, MJ works as the Production Manager for Opera House Arts in Stonington, ME and as the Production Manager for the International Association of Performing Arts for Youth Showcase and Conference in Philadelphia, PA
As a practitioner of technical theatre, MJ has interests in sustainability and “green” production practices. While at UMaine, she hopes to further advocate for diversity and inclusion within technical theatre, especially with respect to women in under-represented areas.
