WABI (Channel 5 in Bangor) and News Center Maine covered the University of Maine’s annual Downeast Wild Blueberry Field Day, where growers, researchers and industry leaders discussed new research and strategies to improve drought resilience following a $28 million industry shortfall caused by last year’s flash drought. “This event really brings farmers and industry members and the university experts to the farm to talk about blueberries, new research we have, new education materials, and to hear from farmers what challenges they are facing right now,” said Lily Calderwood, University of Maine Cooperative Extension wild blueberry specialist.
