In recognition of his innumerable contributions to the field of Statistics, Ramesh Gupta has been awarded a Trustee Professorship. The Trustee Professorships were established by the University of Maine System Board of Trustees to honor and support the scholarly endeavors of outstanding faculty.

The 2017 Maine/Québec Number Theory Conference was held on the weekend of October 14-15 at the University of Maine. It featured 51 lectures by an international group of mathematicians who do research in number theory. More information may be found on the conference website.

Clayton Dodge, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at the University of Maine, died on January 22, 2017. Professor Dodge taught mathematics in the department from 1956-1997. His obituary can be found here.

The Annual University of Maine Mathematics Contest took place in November. The contest consisted of challenging calculus problems, to be completed over one weekend. 23 students participated.
