The 2018 Québec/Maine Number Theory Conference was held on the weekend of October 6-7 at the Université Laval in Québec.  Organized jointly by faculty at UMaine and ULaval, it featured lectures by an international group of mathematicians who do research in number theory.  More information may be found on the conference website.

This fall, we welcome seven new faculty: Timothy Boester, Jack Buttcane, Tyrone Crisp, Jaehong Jeong, Ayesha Maliwal, Matthew Morse, and Julian Rosen. Go Bears!

In recognition of his innumerable contributions to the field of Statistics, Ramesh Gupta has been awarded a Trustee Professorship. The Trustee Professorships were established by the University of Maine System Board of Trustees to honor and support the scholarly endeavors of outstanding faculty.

Clayton Dodge, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at the University of Maine, died on January 22, 2017. Professor Dodge taught mathematics in the department from 1956-1997.  His obituary can be found here.

University of Maine Mathematics MA student Kenneth Bundy is working in Prof. Ali Abedi’s WiSe-Net Lab on wireless sensor technology.  You can read about their work in this UMaine news article.
