Athletic Administration (Graduate Certificate)
About
The Athletic Administration graduate certificate is a 100% online program that provides hands-on instruction from scholarly-practitioners and instructors for experienced educators interested in becoming certified athletic directors for K-12 schools in Maine. Students in the program will learn about organizational behavior, leadership principles and strategies, legal issues, and ethical leadership grounded in diversity and equity. By the end of the three course (9-credit) graduate certificate, students who already hold building-level certification will be eligible to apply for Athletic Director certification in Maine. Students who do not have the required building-level administrator certification can stack this certificate with our Try on Leadership graduate certificate, which allows you to apply for Assistant Principal certification through the Maine Department of Education. Most school districts in Maine pay for nine credits per school year, meaning most students interested in the Athletic Administration certificate will face minimal, if any, out-of-pocket costs.

Careers
Schools around the United States are in need of highly qualified educators to address shortages and replace those who retire or leave the profession for other reasons. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for K-12 administrators, including athletic directors, is more than $111,000. In addition, research has shown that educators with graduate degrees have better job satisfaction and are more likely to stay in the profession as they advance in their careers.
For students wishing to continue on in graduate school, the credits earned in the Athletic Administration graduate certificate program can be applied toward a master’s or Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree.
