Leslie Ross studied modern bassoon with R. Mazzella in Montreal, G. Corey in Ottawa and baroque bassoon with D. Godburn in NYC before mostly dedicating herself to experimental and new music music in the mid 80’s. Her connected, parallel, work as baroque bassoon builder also opened up into explorations of invented instruments and sound installations at the same time. She has presented solo programs, both acoustic and electro-acoustic with laptops or electronics throughout Europe and the US over the past three decades, along with playing and touring with numerous other improving musician. In June 2014 she relocated music studio, workshop and living quarters to an old canning factory in rural Maine, where she also now houses The Cannery at South Penobscot, a performance and sound installation venue and residency program.
