COS 105 AI Literacy

Modern generative AI is a rapidly growing phenomenon that is changing the way we interact with technology and creative expression. This course will talk about how to adapt to this technology as it continues to evolve, how it works, and techniques for using it effectively and responsibly. As we progress through the course we will also be looking at how the many facets of society are responding to this technology as the barrier of entry is lowered. How are academic institutions responding? How are programmers responding? Writers? Artists? Etc. We're in an era where it would be difficult to find some domain that isn't being impacted by this technology in some way.

A high-level approach to game programming uses one of the game engines commonly employed by game-development companies. These include several built-in tools, such as character controllers, cameras, lights, shaders, a powerful physics engine, terrain editors, tree generators, and more. Many of these are scripts are written in a common computer programming language. While many of the exercises focus on programming, a student who is a beginning programmer can create significant game content using only the pre-packaged assets.

SIE 555 Spatial Database Systems

.This course introduces the theory and practice of spatial database management system (SDBMS). A SDBMS has a data model and query language to structure and query spatial data collections, and shield users from implementation and execution details. The course introduces the relational algebra, SQL, spatial extensions to the relational algebra and the OGC-based Spatial Extension to SQL. The course investigates the efficient query processing of spatial data. This includes spatial index structures, the implementation of spatial operators, and the processing and optimization of spatial query consisting of a set of spatial operators. The course balances academic principles with practical problems and the use of open-source spatial database systems such as PostGIS and QGIS.
