Researchers from the University of Maine at Machias were featured at News Center Maine for their work using clam-collecting boxes to study ways to reverse the decline of Maine’s soft-shell clam populations. “The clamming industry is really in dire straits,” said Brian Beal, marine ecology professor at UMaine Machias. “This recruitment monitoring network was designed to take a look at what the problem is, but also highlight it and share it with as many people as we can so that people are aware of the situation.”
