Maine media highlight snowmobile economic impact study from UMaine
The Bangor Daily News, Maine Public, WFVX (FOX 22/ABC 7 in Bangor) and WGME (CBS 13 in Portland) highlighted the updated report from the University of Maine on the economic contribution of snowmobiling in the state. For the 2023-2024 winter season, the report found that industry contributions dropped $128 million in comparison to the previous year. “I think snowmobilers need to adapt to how they are approaching that sport,” said Jessica Leahy, lead author of the study and professor of human dimensions at the UMaine School of Forest Resources. “Maybe they don’t go the same week as they always did. They need to change it to when snow is reliably on the ground or maybe when they get to their location, they can think of other activities to do.” The Piscataquis Observer shared the UMaine release.
