Island Ad-Vantages report on UMaine students redesigning Sunshine Causeway

Island Ad-Vantages reported that a group of five University of Maine engineering students are designing a new causeway that connects Sunshine island to the rest of Deer Isle for a senior project. The causeway was damaged during storms and temporarily stranded Sunshine residents. The UMaine group is one of six participating in the redesign project, which could save the town money in engineering costs. While student designs can’t be used directly, a licensed engineer can review and approve them. In May, UMaine engineering student designs were slightly modified and used to install a concrete culvert on Sunshine island.
