We are excited to announce a unique opportunity for families and professionals to attend a 2-day PEERS® Friendship Boot Camp in Brewer on March 14th &15th or in Waterville at Thomas College on April 4th and 5th.
Offered by Sarah Howorth, PhD, BCBA, and Deborah Rooks-Ellis, PhD, the PEERS® Friendship Boot Camps are open to all, including teens, young adults, parents and professionals. Cost is just $150 for the two-day workshop, and includes didactic instruction, role-playing demonstrations, and time to practice newly learned skills in small group behavioral rehearsal exercises with direct coaching from the team.
The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relationship Skills (PEERS) was developed at the UCLA Semel Institute by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson. As of today, it is the only evidence-based social skills intervention for teens and young adults with autism that is supported by more than 30 research studies conducted worldwide. PEERS is a manualized, social skills training intervention for adolescents and young adults. It has a strong evidence-base for use with teens and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, but is also appropriate for teens and young adults with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other socioemotional problems. Drs. Deborah Rooks-Ellis and Sarah Howorth have been certified by the Semel Institute to deliver this intervention and to train others to also deliver this intervention here in Maine.
Full details for the PEERS® Friendship Boot camps are available on our event calendar: Brewer Boot camp or Waterville/Thomas College Boot camp. Register for PEERS® Friendship Boot Camp on MAIER’s secure online registration site.
