Our Mission

Drawing on a rich tradition of excellence, the College of Education and Human Development at Maine’s flagship university is committed to leading innovation in Maine’s PreK-12 schools, higher education institutions, and agencies that support academic, cognitive, physical, social and emotional development. We promote effective teaching and learning, identify critical issues, conduct research, and disseminate findings. Collaborating with external partners and experts across the University of Maine, we prepare our graduates to engage in ethical conduct, reflective practice, meaningful inquiry, and data-driven decision making in order to meet the increasingly diverse needs of our state and the world in which we live.

Nationally Accredited Programs

The College of Education and Human Development at UMaine is the largest educator preparation and training college in the state. Our educator preparation programs are accredited by CAEP, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. CAEP accreditation is a seal of approval that assures quality in educator preparation and that our programs prepare new teachers to know their subjects, their students and have the training that allows them to enter the classroom ready to teach effectively.

Our Athletic Training education program is accredited by CAATE, the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education. CAATE accreditation ensures our programs meet the standards that facilitate quality outcomes, continuous improvement, innovation and diversity to enhance athletic training education.
