Katherine Miles Durst Child Development Learning Center
About
The Katherine Miles Durst Child Development Learning Center located in Merrill Hall operates a state-licensed preschool open to children throughout the community. Established in 1931, it is one of the first university-affiliated child care centers in the United States. The center also serves as a lab school where early childhood and education students can observe and learn about the behaviors of young children.
Dedicated to providing quality preschool education, our program reflects the latest research and best practice in the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of the young child.
We offer state-licensed child care for children between the ages of 33 months and 5 years.
Our curriculum is designed to encourage children to explore, inquire and experiment, as well as to convey the challenge, excitement and satisfaction of learning.
Parents are welcome to observe activities taking place in the Center. An observation booth is built into the facility.
Children attend four mornings per week, Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
One teacher for every eight children.
We are currently developing additional programming that we hope to offer in the near future around specific developmental and content areas. These include creative play and expression, foundational literacy, emerging numeracy and early STEM exploration.
