Future Music Educator Day 2026

FreeAn opportunity for high school students to experience a “day in the life” of a music education major at the University of Maine: attend classes, talk to undergradates, sing & play, learn about auditions!
Free; registration required.
Lunch included.
Optional individual mini-lesson on your instrument with a UMaine faculty member.
Schedule (tentative)
8:45 – 9 a.m. Registration in Minsky Receital Hall Lobby
Followed by short parent/guardian info session and tour
9:00 a.m. Overview
Introduction to each other and the music education degree program
9:30 a.m. MUE 210 Intro to Music Education
Participate in this sophomore level course
10:15 a.m. Conducting Session
Learn basic conducting gestures
11:00 a.m. MUE 320 Elementary General Music Methods
Participate in this junior level course
11:30 a.m. Eat lunch in the Union (provided)
Lunch is on us! Dine and converse with current UMaine music education faculty & students
12:30 p.m. MUO 109 Collegiate Chorale
Sing alongside members of this non-auditioned ensemble and meet students from all across the University
1:30 p.m. Tour of the Facilities
2:15 p.m. Student Panel
Hear from current music education students! Learn about their experiences, discuss auditioning for college, and ask questions!
2:45 – 3 p.m. Wrap up, closing activity

Registration deadline: October 21
High school seniors can use the mini-lesson as their college audition to UMaine.
