Where the Lotus Fields Remember Exhibition- Opening Reception
November 4 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Art Exhibition curated for the first time by IMFA grad student, Chanthu Millay.
Running from November 4th through November 8th.
Includes the works of 6 grad students and 6 faculty members.
Where the Lotus Fields Remember exhibition brings together faculty and graduate students whose work explores different interpretations and experiences of violence.
With everything happening in the world, and in our own backyard, I believe we need spaces where we can talk about our stories, connect with one another, and create opportunities for understanding. This exhibition is not about promising healing from experiences of violence, because healing does not always happen. Instead, it asks us to investigate how violence manifests in our lives and how we, as individuals and as a community, respond to those experiences.
The exhibition seeks to bring us together through our common humanity. While our experiences of violence are never equal or interchangeable, many of us have experienced some form of violence in our lives. That shared reality can become a point of connection rather than division.
The white lotus serves as a symbol of resilience and rebirth. Each lotus, each artwork within the exhibition, represents an individual struggling to bloom within a field shaped by difficult and sometimes tragic experiences.
