About
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting student academic, social-emotional and behavioral outcomes. It also improves teacher health and well-being. Our 100% online graduate certificate in PBIS empowers educators with the knowledge and skills to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives. This certificate provides a sequence of courses based on a multi-tiered service delivery model consistent with the requirements of federal and state law. Graduates will gain the knowledge and skills to provide support to students with intensive behavioral needs, provide leadership to their schools and serve as coaches in supporting PBIS implementation in their schools.
Our graduate certificates can be completed as focused, standalone professional learning credentials or as part of a master’s or Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree program. In addition, students interested in the PBIS graduate certificate may also want to consider our Maine PBIS Tier 1 Trainer and Coach Micro-Credential.

Program Learning Outcomes
This 9-credit graduate certificate is offered entirely online and designed to meet the busy schedule of practicing teachers and other educators. Our graduate programs in Special Education are intended to help our graduates attain the professional knowledge and competencies outlined by the Council for Exceptional Children’s Professional Preparation Standards. The standards describe the necessary skills and expertise for practicing special education teachers. The Council for Exceptional Children is the premiere professional organization for special education.
Careers
Schools and districts around the United States are in need of highly qualified special educators to address shortages and replace teachers who retire or leave the profession for other reasons. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for special education teachers is more than $64,000. In addition, research has shown that educators with graduate degrees have better job satisfaction and are more likely to stay in the profession as they advance in their careers.
For students wishing to continue on in graduate school, the credits earned in the PBIS graduate certificate program can be applied toward a master’s or Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree.
