Facilities

The University of Maine houses some of the finest facilities on any campus in northern New England.  Within the Class of 1944 Hall, we house four performance spaces, with an additional performance space within walking distance.  We are proud to call the Class of 1944 Hall our home.

A simple, somewhat unadorned performance space built for experimental theatre. Renovated to be a space for classes and performances, it is meant for productions that need limited sets, simple lighting effects, and an intimate focus on the story, writing, and performances rather than technical elements. 100 seats.

The Dance Studio is used as a classroom for our dance courses which make up our dance minor curriculum. The space is also commonly used for dance masterclasses and workshops.

Our well equipped costume shop and makeup studio is where the costumes for theatre and dance productions are constructed. Students work with our costume shop manager as well as production costume designers from around the region on costuming our shows.

The Instrumental Rehearsal Hall, room 100, is home to our large instrumental ensembles. These include the Symphonic Band, UMaine Jazz Ensemble, and University Orchestra. The hall is also used for large lecture courses in music history and music education.

Our extensive percussion studio and inventory is available for percussion majors only. Applied lessons are taught in this space. This space, in addition to two smaller studios, is available for percussion majors to practice in.

The Scene Shop, with 4,200 square feet of workspace, has dedicated areas for wood construction, welding, and finish work such as paint. Rolling work tables and storage enable this space to be fully flexible to allow for a large set to be constructed and assembled here before being loaded in to Hauck Auditorium, accessed through a large (16’ square) garage door.
