About
Our program prepares students for careers as performing arts educators or professional performers. As the flagship campus of the University of Maine System, we are dedicated to our mission of service to the citizens of Maine. Both students and faculty of the School of Performing Arts are active at the University level as well as in surrounding communities. We are very proud of the education UMaine students receive, of the ambitious slate of performances put forth each year that are made available to not only our campus community but to the public, and of the reputation our faculty and students have earned. We believe strongly in our outreach programs and the many activities at the state, national and international levels of our students and faculty. We invite you to find yourself in the arts here at the University of Maine School of Performing Arts.

Undergraduate Studies
The Division of Music provides education of undergraduate and students majoring in music, as well as that of interested students from the university at large. Through the integration of academics and performance, the division furthers the knowledge and appreciation of music on campus, throughout the state, in the region, and beyond. Teaching, service and creative activity are principally focused on professional degree programs that serve the music education community.
Within the Division of Theatre & Dance, the student will likely explore all areas of the theatre curriculum, but they can also elect to focus on a specific area of interest by selecting a group of courses beyond the core requirements. These specific areas of interest might include History, Literature, and Performance Studies; Directing; Acting; Design; and/or Technology. Learning by participation is our philosophy and one of our strengths.
Graduate Studies
The Division of Music offers graduate studies leading to the Master of Music degree in Music Education (with optional emphasis in conducting) and the Master of Music degree in Performance. These majors are fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
Individualized curricula are designed to meet students’ interests and needs while offering a balanced program of academic and professional courses.
