Phi Kappa Phi

Chapter 1

Established at the University of Maine in 1897, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is a nationally recognized, nonprofit organization dedicated to the recognition and promotion of academic excellence and integrity in all fields of higher education.

As the founding institution, the University of Maine hosts Chapter 1 – an exclusive honor. Phi Kappa Phi chapters are now found on more than 300 university and college campuses throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and Guam. With more than one million members worldwide and hundreds of chapters located on university and college campuses, Phi Kappa Phi is one of the oldest, most widely recognized, and most respected academic honor societies.

How to Join

Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only. In order to be eligible for membership in the spring of your senior or junior year, you must be in the top 10 percent of your class if you are a senior, or in the top 7.5 percent of your class if you are a junior. The top 10 percent of graduate students who meet similar but separate academic criteria are also eligible.

Invitations are sent in the spring semester, and invitees are encouraged to attend the induction ceremony to interact with new and current members and learn first-hand about the many benefits of membership in this prestigious and nationally recognized honor society.  For more information, please contact the UMaine chapter president, Dr. Dan Sandweiss.
