Tick lab annual report highlighted by Maine Media
The University of Maine’s Cooperative Extension Tick Lab’s annual report was covered by WGME (Channel 13 in Portland), the Daily Bulldog, Morning Ag Clips, and WFVX (Channel 7 in Bangor). For its report, the lab sampled over 4,700 ticks from all over Maine, and more than 3,500 were deer ticks. Laboratory testing showed that 41.5% of the deer ticks analyzed carried Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium that causes Lyme disease, while 12% carried Babesia microti, 9.7% had Anaplasma phagocytophilum and 1.1% carried Powassan virus.
