About
Welcome to the International Affairs Program. We offer an exciting curriculum in a variety of specializations. Our students have received many prestigious internships and awards, and our graduates have started careers in international organizations, international business, diplomatic service, education, journalism and media, environmental organizations, and humanitarian work. Others have pursued graduate degrees in law, international relations, and numerous other disciplines.

Undergraduate
The Program enjoys tremendous contributions from our research faculty, our top-performing students, and our active student organization. International Affairs is available as a major or a minor. All students select a thematic concentration focusing their course of study and expertise. Student learning in International Affairs extends outside the classroom. Many students choose to study-abroad, others are involved in political activities, and the student-run organization, the International Affairs Association, organizes related campus events and participates yearly in the McGill Model United Nations Assembly in Montreal.
Model United Nations
The purpose of our organization is to foster an environment for quality discussion on international topics and challenge our members to think critically and gain new perspectives on global issues. Model United Nations Conferences are a great way for our members to put their skills to use, meet people from all over the world, and grow professionally and personally. Our members come from all different majors, from Engineering to English, all having something to gain from the skills and confidence-building offered by Model UN. The experiences our members gain will go on to shape their futures as they complete college and enter their careers.
Furthermore, traveling to different conferences allows us to represent the University of Maine and the state of Maine as a whole on the national and international level. At a lot of these conferences, we meet people who have never met anyone from Maine or even heard of UMaine before. It is an honor to show the world what our university and all of Maine have to offer.
Outside of conferences, we host weekly meetings for our members to practice their skills necessary for Model UN, such as public speaking and resolution writing. We also foster a welcoming and friendly environment within our team by hosting social events around Orono, the most popular being at the Orono Trampoline Park! Our team also has a partnership with the Student Heritage Alliance Council (SHAC) to bring together student organizations with similar perspectives on international cooperation and diversity. As an organization, we have a strong presence on the UMaine campus!
