Research & Non-Standard Computer Purchases
Send your completed requests or program questions by email to um-computer-purchasing-group@maine.edu.
This form is required for Researchers intending to purchase non-standard computing devices for review by a Committee comprised of representatives from Research Administration, Information Security, Procurement, and Campus IT Support. Please be detailed in your answers as the information often expedites the review process and minimizes the need for additional correspondence by Committee members.
Researchers are responsible for maintaining and supporting non-standard computing devices in compliance with all UMS Information Security Policies and Practices in addition to any project specific requirements. You also need to understand that UMS IT only provides a “Best Effort” support for these non-standard computing devices to provide assistance when attempting to connect to UMS Resources.

UM/UMM Computer Refresh Program (CRP)
What is CRP?
- A campus-funded program issuing laptops to eligible E&G funded employees of UMaine and Machias.
- Intended to replace older out-dated computers and your old device is exchanged for a new CRP device.
- Devices are provided at no cost to the department while accessories and add-ons remain the funding responsibility of the department.
- Equipment remains with assigned individuals for 5 years, after which eligible users are issued a new replacement device.
- Equipment issued to employees who separate from the University is returned to UMaine IT for useability assessment and repurposing or recycling via standard eWaste procedures.
- All devices include UMS:IT managed software and security enrollment, plus extended on-site warranties with Accidental Damage Protection.
