DEIB

Lab Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belongingness Statement

Here at the Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology Lab (C-CAP), we value diversity, equity, inclusion, and belongingness (DEIB).  These principles guide all the work our lab does and help our lab effectively address the youth mental health crisis.  Diversity encompasses the unique identities, experiences, and backgrounds that each member brings to our lab, creating a dynamic and varied intellectual atmosphere and that our research is benefitting otherwise underrepresented groups.  Equity ensures that every lab member has access to opportunities, resources, and a voice in decision-making and that participation in and dissemination of our work is accessible and responsive to a wide range of people. Inclusion means making sure everyone feels welcome and valued in and by the C-CAP lab because their identities are valued.  Belongingness takes this a step further by ensuring that everyone involved in the C-CAP lab and our research feels like a part of our community.

Consistent with these values, the C-CAP lab actively supports the rights of sexual and gender diverse individuals and BIPOC. Specifically, we recognize and advocate for the Wabanaki peoples’ sovereignty (where our lab is located); believe that Black Lives Matter, that hate towards Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, or any group, is unacceptable, and that mental health equity, and inclusion of individuals with lived experience is paramount. Acknowledging our location in an underserved rural area with high socioeconomic diversity, our mission is to develop and provide integrated mental healthcare services to our Maine community. Our lab embraces cultural humility and strives to promote an environment that models this stance.

In order to support others it is our responsibility to learn about these practices ourselves. Below are some selected resources. These will be updated and changed out consistently.
