UMaine Facility Location

Old Town, Maine

Project Summary

The Black Bear Academy project expands childcare capacity at UMaine while modernizing existing facilities to meet current standards. The initiative will increase the number of available childcare slots to better support students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community.

This project reflects a broader commitment to strengthening campus infrastructure and addressing critical workforce and family needs. By enhancing access to high-quality childcare, the university supports retention, recruitment and overall campus well-being. Located on the edge of campus, the facilities improve accessibility for both university affiliates and local families, reinforcing UMaine’s role as a community partner.

In addition to expanding capacity, the project will align facilities with updated health, safety and accessibility expectations established since the pandemic.
