UMaine Club Sports – There’s a Sport For You!

More Information

University of Maine Sport Clubs are student organizations specifically registered within the Campus Recreation Department, formed by students with a common interest in a physical sport activity that exists to promote and develop interest in that particular activity. The group has joined together and organized to further their interest and enjoyment in this activity as well as promote the mission and values of the department athletically.

UMaine Sport Clubs are student-initiated and student-led, sport-like in nature, and must be acknowledged by both the University of Maine Student Government (UMSG) as well as the Sport Club Office in order to form. Clubs must be unique from other teams and must adhere to all procedures and policies according to UMaine Campus Recreation and the University of Maine as a whole. Club Sports aim to serve as a community, and currently provide an outlet for over 1,000 enrolled UMaine students.

The University of Maine Campus Recreation Sports Club program gives students an opportunity to take part in the leadership, responsibility, and decision-making process of their respective club activities. The success of any Sports Club depends on the professionalism and leadership shown by the club officers, advisors, and coaches. It is created for students, by students. Clubs create a community in which students can form connections to peers and the facilities available, as well as travel, compete, and stay active during their time at UMaine.

Clubs are created for and by students. Please refer to the link below for instructions on how to create a University of Maine Club Sport, including contacts and support.

UMaine Club Sports operate within a tier system (1-5) that is dictated by the longevity of the club and the responsibilities they take on. All Club Sport teams have community service and fundraising benchmarks in order to continue operations and receive funding support from Campus Recreation and/or UMSG. Clubs rely on their own funding, community donations, and subsequent University support to fund their endeavors, including practices, travel expenses, league fees, officiating expenses, and necessary equipment

We currently host 36 unique club teams that cater to over 1,000 students at the University of Maine. All club teams and contact information are found below.
