What We offer

The UMaine Writing Center works with students from any discipline, at any stage in their academic career, on any project. We’re here to support you at all stages of your writing journey, whether that’s a finished draft or a blank page. Bring your writing, your ideas, your questions, or just a starting point—we’ll meet you where you are and work with you to take the next step.
Explore our featured programs below to learn more about the additional ways the Writing Center can support you throughout the semester.

Start your semester with a plan. The Syllabus Start-Up Program gives you the opportunity to meet with a Writing Center tutor and turn that overwhelming syllabus into an actual game plan. Together, you’ll review your course requirements, identify major writing assignments and important deadlines, map out your busiest weeks, and create a realistic plan for staying on track throughout the semester. Get organized early and take a proactive approach to your workload—before the semester gets away from you.

Our Study Buddy Program gives students a dedicated time and space to work alongside a Writing Center tutor while making progress on their assignments. You can work quietly and independently, ask questions when you need support, or benefit from having someone there to help keep you focused and accountable. Whether you’re working through a big project or just trying to check a few tasks off your to-do list, Study Buddy can help you stay on track and get your work done.

Stay on track all semester long with a standing, recurring Writing Center appointment. By meeting with the same tutor on a regular basis, you can build a consistent routine, stay accountable to your goals, and get ongoing support as your assignments and workload change throughout the semester. Use your appointment time to work on projects for any of your classes, talk through ideas, get feedback, or make steady progress on your work. A recurring appointment gives you dedicated time each week to focus on your writing and helps ensure you don’t fall behind when the semester gets busy.

Schedule an appointment with a Writing Center tutor to create, update, or strengthen your resume. We’ll work with you to highlight your skills and experiences and make sure your document is clear, polished, and tailored to your goals. Bring what you have—even if you’re starting from scratch—and we’ll help you create a resume you feel confident submitting.
