WordPress updated
The WordPress system for UMaine, UMaine Machias and Cooperative Extension has been updated, with minor fixes and improvements to features. Beginning in June, Digital Communications will be working with UMS IT’s Web Technologies group to add additional features that will allow for more adoption of the newer, advanced Gutenberg editor.
Change coming for password-protected pages
If you make use of the “password” option for pages in WordPress, the new updates have introduced a new method for setting that password which we will implement in early June. Any pages currently set to require a password will be unaffected by this change, but setting a page to require a password will change somewhat. More information about this change will be detailed in the June newsletter.
An update on Gutenberg editor
We have received feedback from our early adopters that the newer Gutenberg editor offers much more control over the look-and-feel of your web pages, but that flexibility comes with a steep learning curve. We will continue to offer the Classic style editor and our Content Blocks system through 2022 and 2023, and work with UMS IT to create Gutenberg versions of our Article List, Event List, and People List content blocks beginning in 2023.
If you are interested in trying out the newer Gutenberg editor, please let us know and we can give access to a “sandbox” site that you can use to explore how it works.
