New ‘Life in the Pines’ video series offers window into student experience at UMaine
“Life in the Pines,” an unscripted video series sharing stories of students at the University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias, launched Monday, Dec. 16.
Prioritizing authenticity, this series seeks to show what life is really like here in the Pine Tree State for students at both campuses — including traditional undergraduate, transfer, international and adult degree completion students. Visit umaine.edu/pines to watch the full series.
“Life in the Pines” kicks off with an episode that explores day-to-day life on the Orono and Machias campuses, and their surrounding areas.
In later installments, follow business student Haven Jones as he bounces between his many extracurriculars and Jamie Fogg while she works in one of our research labs. UMaine Machias student Patrick Bilodeau will also take viewers to the picturesque Maine coastline in a future episode, and Gabriella Shetreet shows them quiet spaces on campus to write and reflect.
Other students to be featured in the series include:
- Danny Tanaka, who is studying biology (pre-med).
- Annabelle Collins, who is majoring in mechanical engineering technology.
- Casey Maddock, who is studying secondary education.
- Kaidar Donenbayev, who is studying Earth and climate sciences.
- Nina Hollon, who is majoring in university studies.
Don’t miss this insider’s look at UMaine through the lens of a dynamic group of students living life in the pines.

Being so engrossed and so enthralled with the people, while still being able to drive 20 minutes, and be in the middle of nowhere, is so amazing.
I think this university, much like our state, is like a pine tree. It’s very big. It’s very strong. It’s very sturdy. And the experiences that you have here are going to last through all the seasons of your life.
